Violet Bell, the brilliant duo of Lizzy Ross and Omar Ruiz-Lopez, have released the wonderful second single from their upcoming album “Shapeshifter,” out this fall.
“Fisherman’s Daughter” is a radiant and poetic song about the ancient Celtic myth of the selkie. The band explains that this “mythical seal who can shed her skin to become human is a potent metaphor for the embodiment and dysphoria often experienced by marginalized people.” This inviting, quaint composition shines with a stunning fusion of fiddle, banjo, and guitar. Lizzy Ross’s delicate vocals lead the track in a playful yet elegant manner. “Fisherman’s Daughter” shifts from quiet to picturesque moments, changes its dynamic, but remains delectable and hypnotizing.
