Genre: Soukous, Afropop
Brooklyn via Botswana artist Lollise presented the ravishing first single from her forthcoming debut album, “I hit the water,” out on September 6.
“eDube” beautifully incorporates Congolese music, electric guitar-led Afrobeat, and Afropop/rock. This finely honed composition offers radiant guitars and bass played by musician Yohni Djungu Sungu (Loboko), vintage-flavored synths, and an engrossing dynamic. Lyrically though, it’s a very touching and personal song about the death of Lollise’s father and her mother’s resilience, yet the singer’s passionate performance sounds incredibly inspiring. The track’s bright and invigorating energy is conveyed by the brilliant music video directed by Marvin Castro.
